It is especially sad to see senior dogs behind the bars of a kennel. Except for the fact that they deserve a warm home and all the love in this world, knowing that there is a slight chance that these poor old canines will never find a forever home truly breaks a heart.
The story of one senior dog, a resident of a shelter in Texas, is especially heartbreaking. Yet, to the delight of every true dog lover, and thanks to people with big hearts, it has its happiest ending.
A senior Chihuahua named Guac was not pampered by life at all when she was found as a stray on the street at the age of 15 in January 2024. Right after they found her, she was transported to the shelter in Texas.
This poor dog had to spend several months between the four walls of the kennel, but even that was better than the street. At least, she was given the hope for a brighter future.
To her delight, that happy moment soon happened. Against all odds, the shelter managed to find her a home and Guac was soon with her new family. In those moments, everything seemed so perfect.
Sadly, her fairytale didn’t last long because after only two months, that new family surrendered Guac to the same shelter.
The poor little doggo was completely devastated. This sad situation also broke the hearts of the shelter staff, especially because they knew that it would be really hard to find her a new home again.
However, these great people weren’t willing to give up on her so easily.
When the employees of The PAWerful Rescue saw how her now former owners wrapped Guac in a blanket and just handed her over without any emotion, they were sad and angry at the same time.
Yet, this heartless act only motivated them to do everything to provide this dog with a brighter future. Their persistence soon paid off when they got in touch with a special family in Colorado.
After so many heartbreaks, Guac became a part of a family of many canine siblings and loving humans, known on Instagram as The Fellowship of the Bean. The video her new mom posted on July 3, 2024, via her account @the_wee_ones_, shows that best.
After she picked Guac up in Denver, Colorado, along with her other pets, this senior Chihuahua’s new life started. Her mom gave her a new name, Elfie, and from that moment on, she did not take the smile off her face.
Elfie was finally where she belonged – with a family that would love her immensely and most importantly, that wouldn’t betray her and break her heart as some others did.
Just like any senior dog, that’s the least this sweet little old lady deserves in her final years of life.
