Caitlin Clark can’t hide her joy at reuniting with Kate Martin: ‘It’s definitely fun for us’ – News
Indiana and Las Vegas will meet for the third time this season on Wednesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Kate Martin (L) and Caitlin Clark have already faced off twice this season.
Not only did Caitlin Clark and Kate Martin form an unstoppable duo in their time with the Iowa Hawkeyes, but they also became best friends. After the 2024 WNBA Draft, each went their way, but now they’re about to meet again in the two-game series between Indiana and Las Vegas, and Clark couldn’t be happier.
Although the Fever and the Aces have already met twice this season, with the result in favor of Las Vegas, Clark always celebrates the opportunity to meet her best friend on the court.
After all, they shared a locker room for four years and reached two NCAA finals. Although they never achieved the coveted title, the friendship they forged in those years is still alive today more than ever, and Clark always has words of encouragement for Martin every time one of those games approaches.
On this occasion, the Fever guard said, “It’s cool getting to see one of your best friends live out her dream and then play against each other, but at the same time it’s definitely pretty weird for the two of us.”
Fun is guaranteed for Clark and Martin
In a chat with the media after a practice with the team, Caitlin Clark admitted that it is taking her some time to get used to the fact that she is now a rival of her best friend. “Like, we were teammates for four years, we got very used to that. And now going against each other… you love it, you joke about it. But at the same time, it takes some getting used to.”
Despite everything, she said it is amusing to meet up with Kate Martin every time the opportunity presents itself. “It’s definitely fun for us, it’s fun for a lot of fans in the Midwest who cheered us on when we were in college.”
Las Vegas and Indiana are fourth and sixth in the WNBA’s overall standings, and although the competition between their teams is hard, there is no jealousy between them. “I’m just super proud of her, and she’s one of the hardest workers, a great teammate, a great leader, one of the best teammates I’ve ever had. So it’s fun getting to watch her have some success,”Clark said.
Clark for revenge against Martin
Despite the friendship that unites them, there is no doubt that both will go out for the win this Wednesday at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. Clark, in particular, will try to give her team the victory that was denied in their last two games, when they lost 99-80 and 88-69 to Las Vegas.

In the May 25 game, the star guard scored eight points and dished out seven assists, while Martin chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds for the Aces. A month later, on July 2, Clark recorded 13 points and 11 assists, while Martin saw just 11 minutes of action, grabbing one rebound.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the game to see two of this year’s top rookies, while the friends can’t wait to see each other again and test their talents against each other.
