A psychologist, Liappe Powell, spotted the injured Greyhound on the street. She took the dog to the vet, where it was determined that he had a broken leg.
They treated the dog, now named Vera, but discovered that she was still milking after giving birth to a litter of puppies. Of course, the humans had no idea where to find these lost babies. But Vera knew. In fact, she wasn’t willing to give up her puppies.
Dr. Elle Sobry, the veterinarian, along with Powell, put a collar and long leash on Vera and let her out. To their surprise, Vera immediately began leading the truck toward her bunk. “Limping and sometimes dragging her cast, she led them down alleys and main roads over fields and muddy paths…
“There were 10 beautiful, fat, healthy puppies back there,” Powell told the Daily Mail.
Sure enough, they captured the puppies and took them back to Dr. Sobry’s clinic, where everyone is recovering, including Vera. Ibizan Hospital Rescue has taken them in and they will be available for adoption once they are healthy and old enough to go to their next homes.
Vera herself deserves an amazing forever home, so we hope she finds one just like her adorable babies.
